FOI reference: FOI-2025-2836

You asked

I would like to request information about convictions in the UK for violent crimes and sexual assault from 2015-2025 committed by men and transgender women.

We said

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the information you have requested. The ONS Centre for Crime and Justice produce figures on the levels and trends of crime in England and Wales primarily based on two sets of crime statistics: the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and police recorded crime (PRC) data provided by the Home Office. Neither of these data sources collect information on prosecutions and conviction rates.

Statistics produced from the CSEW are for England and Wales only. For crime statistics for Scotland and Northern Ireland, you would need to contact Scottish Government and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency directly. Their contact details are foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk.

We publish some limited information on convictions for violent crimes and sexual assaults but only for those that have been recorded as domestic abuse related. This can be found in our most recent Domestic abuse and the criminal justice system dataset on the Office for National Statistics website. In addition to our domestic abuse publication, you may also be interested in our Sexual offending: victimisation and the path through the criminal justice system article that covers convictions for sexual offenses.

Court statistics and data on convictions and prosecutions in England and Wales are recorded and held by the Ministry of Justice. They publish court statistics on a quarterly basis. The Ministry of Justice may be able to help further, they can be contacted at the following email address: ESD@justice.gov.uk
